The United Nations Society has a variety of activities, centred on our aim of strengthening interest in international relations and the role of the United Nations in the global community.
Here's an outline of some of our activities. Also, click here to download the 2010 Society Handbook.
Model United Nations
Model UN events make up the biggest portion of our programme in 2010, and will give you the ability to explore important questions in world politics. The society’s MUN program involves both MiniMUNs held on campus and delegations to conferences where traditionally the society has enjoyed much success. If you’re unfamiliar with Model UN, much more information can be found on our MUN pages, or feel free to ask the executive.
Guest speakers
We also regularly invite authoritative and engaging guest speakers to talk on topics relevant to the United Nations, international relations and foreign affairs. In recent years we have been privielged to hear from the likes of Prof. Alan Dupont and Dr. Wendy Lambourne.
Social events
If there is one thing diplomats enjoy more than arguing, it is arguing over a dinner table with a drink in hand. The UN Society is a very friendly one, and there is no better way to unwind after some tense debate than with a few quiet drinks. A variety of social events, from film screenings to drinks nights to speed diplomacy (a fast-paced cross between speed dating and political debate), will be happening throughout 2010—have fun!
