Beyond Model UN, the Society also hosts a variety of other events, looking to our goal of allowing members to build their knowledge of international and humanitarian affairs, in a much more relaxed environment.

Guest speakers

Guest speakers are generally from the worlds of foreign relations or academia, and are invited to speak on topics of current interest. Over the past two years presentations have included sessions on avian flu, the commodification of human rights, the implications of the Japan-USA-Australia strategic triangle for the Asia-Pacific, and climate change-induced displacement.

Social events

A range of more casual events such as film screenings, drinks nights and speed diplomacy (a fast-paced cross between speed dating and political debate) will also feature on our calendar this year.
