Asia-Pacific Model UN Conference (AMUNC)

AMUNC 2010 was held last July at the University of Sydney. We'd like to thank everyone from the University of Sydney who attended!

The Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference is the region's premier Model UN conference. It's a week-long conference held each year in July. 2010's conference was held here at the University of Sydney. Past AMUNCs have been held at the University of Queensland (2009), the University of Adelaide (2008) and the University of Auckland (2007).

This year the Sydney University UN Society sent a large delegation of over 120 delegates and directors - the largest AMUNC delegation ever. It was a great week for all involved and a truly memorable conference experience.

Congratulations should particularly go to those University of Sydney students who picked up delegate awards. We had 6 Best Delegates, 1 Diplomacy Award and 6 Honourable Mentions.

The entire delegation should be proud. Good work everyone!

Best Delegates: Tom Neale (ICJ), Victoria Dimond (COP16), Siobhan Deves (1st GA), Angela Chen (4th GA), Liya Xu (WTO), and Kerry Chen (WHO)

Diplomacy Award: Danielle Chiaverini

Honourable Mentions: Catrina Yu (ICJ), Deng Deng (ICC), Aaron So (3rd GA), Nathan McDonnell (6th GA), Dominic Dietrich (6th GA), and Madeline Keulen (WHO).

Annual General Meeting 2009

10/08/2009 - 18:00
10/08/2009 - 20:00

This year's AGM will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday October 8, in the Holme Common Room. Click here to download a copy of the agenda.

The Executive strongly encourages attendance by all members. An AGM is an important event so that members can be:

  • Informed - of the society's progress for the year
  • Empowered - to vote on major decisions, most notably constitution changes
  • And volunteer - for executive roles

Reports

The AGM will commence with reports from a number of Executive members including the President, Treasurer, Conferences Director, and Education Director. Following that, a number of constitutional changes will be put forward.

Constitutional changes

In brief they will specify Model UN as an activity of the society and introduce a Sponsorship Director and up to 3 general executive members to help cope with the society's growing workload. All proposed amendments have been endorsed by the UN Society Executive.

Executive elections

On the night, the Society will vote for the new office bearers for 2010.  This provides a fantastic opportunity for members to become more engaged with the society, form new friendships and develop valuable skills. The executive encourages nominations (see below for information about nominations) and will work closely with the next executive to ensure that they have as much information and assistance as they need to run the society next year.

There are 8 members on the executive. The positions are:
