Launching into 2008

Joining in O-Week

Welcome to what will be another fantastic year for the United Nations Society. If you are interested in joining and haven't done so in person at our stall on the Front Lawns during O-Week, click the banner above. Otherwise, have a browse around the menu and take a look at some of the activities we have in store. You may also want to download our Sociey handbook (PDF) with more information.

End-of-semester update

1. Success in USU Awards

The Society was privileged recently to win three awards sponsored by the University of Sydney Union. As part of the Clubs & Societies program, we won the sought-after Best Club (over 50 members) award, as well as the award for Best Website. Also, we were fortunate to win the USU Foundation's Clubs and Societies Excellence Award, a prize with substantial attached funds that will be allocated towards increasing our financial aid programs for Schools' MUN and SydMUN. Our thanks go to the Union for its generosity in funding these awards and to all of our members who have contributed to the Society's success in 2007.

2. Election of executive for 2008

At the AGM on October 16, a new committee was elected for 2008.

The Society's Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday of Week 12 in the Reading Room of the Holme Building. This is the chance to find out what went on for the Society in 2007, and most importantly, to elect the executive for 2008.

MiniMUN: Weaponisation of Space

09/18/2007 - 17:30
09/18/2007 - 19:30

Our last MiniMUN for the year will be on the timely topic of the weaponisation of space. As usual, it will be in the Holme Reading Room from 5.30 to 7.30pm on Tuesday, and food and drinks will be supplied. For anyone thinking of coming to SydMUN in November, this is a great opportunity to see what Model UN is all about in just one evening.

If you would like to request a country, email uns@usydunsociety.org - otherwise, just show up on the night and pick one.

You can also download the draft resolution (PDF) we will be debating.
