“21st Century Challenges, 21st Century Solutions”

There is no doubt that in this century, the conviction of the international community to uphold international peace and security and promote social wellbeing has been put to the test. Unfortunately conflict remains omnipresent. The declaration of famine in East Africa, the implementation of “The Responsibility to Protect” in Libya, and inter-state struggles over the most valued resource: water- all demonstrate the vast geography and complex issues which challenge society today. The promotion of the Millennium Development Goals is one thing, but acting to achieve it is another. Believing states have a responsibility to protect their citizens is all well and good, but acting against states who jeopardise their citizens’ right to life requires a confidence reserved for those most dedicated and contemporary diplomats and statesmen.

SydMUN 2011 will test the future leaders, diplomats, activists and lawyers to develop new solutions to these new problems. SydMUN 2011 will challenge delegates to broaden their horizons. SydMUN 2011 will prove that diplomacy is the solution for the world’s problems.

The SydMUN 2011 Secretariat are proud to announce that the 6th University of Sydney Model United Nations Conference will happen from the 2nd-4th December 2011. This year with our theme “21st Century Challenges, 21st Century Solutions”, we will be showcasing a diverse range of committees and topics, along with various speaker panels and exciting socials.

Be sure to have a look at the committees and their respective topics, and keep an eye out for more information on how to apply to be a Director and a Special Committee delegate.
